After weeks on the run, a 29-year-old man wanted for the brutal chopping murder of his former lover and the wounding of her teenage daughter has finally given himself up to the police.

Ricardo "Crow" McCarty surrendered early Monday morning at the Lawrence Tavern Police Station, arriving with a relative. He was later taken to the Constant Spring Police Station, where he remains in custody pending formal charges.

McCarty had been featured on the police's Wanted Wednesday campaign on December 3 and is being sought in connection with the October 21 killing of Shoshana Shaw and the injuring of her 17-year-old daughter during a violent attack at their Rose Hill, St Andrew home.

Investigators say McCarty, who was Shaw's former partner, had been on the run since the incident.

Shaw was laid to rest on November 30. Her daughter, who sustained a chop wound to the head, was treated at hospital and later released.

Police reports state that Shaw was at her two-bedroom concrete dwelling with her three children when she stepped outside and was allegedly ambushed by the suspect, who was armed with a machete and waiting in her yard.

She was reportedly chopped several times to her upper body and ran back inside the house screaming for help. Her daughter tried to assist but was struck to the head with the machete, suffering a wound that bled profusely.

Shaw's partially naked body was later discovered along a nearby riverbed.

Head of the St Andrew North Police Division, Superintendent Randy Sweeney, confirmed McCarty's surrender and welcomed the development, once again urging members of the public to work with law enforcement.

Superintendent Sweeney also appealed to residents to share information on wanted individuals, illegal firearms, and criminal gangs, stressing that public cooperation remains critical in the fight against violent crime.

Investigations into the murder and wounding continue.

Meanwhile, police say the following men remain wanted by the St Andrew North Division for murder:

* Shevon Matthews, otherwise called "Max," of Zambia, Central Village and Blue Hole District, Red Hills, St Andrew

* Kemar Samuda, otherwise called "Scamma" or "Choppa," of 104 Red Hills Road, Kingston 19

* Emar Grinham, otherwise called "Bully Beef," of 128 Barbican Road (Andrews Pen), Kingston 8

* Tevin Harris, otherwise called "Ratty," of 100 Lane, Kingston 19 and 51 Bond Street, Kingston 14

The men are being urged to turn themselves in to the Constant Spring Criminal Investigation Branch or the nearest police station.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact the St Andrew North Police Division at 876-924-1421 or call 119.
