Grants Pen tense after triple murder
A peaceful Sunday on Shortwood Lane, just off Grants Pen in St Andrew, was disrupted by the sound of gunshots, prompting them to seek refuge in nearby businesses and the closest available residences.
Two persons were killed on the spot while a third succumbed to his injuries hours later. The identities of the deceased were not released up to press time. The men were reportedly at a construction site along Shortwood Lane when about 3 p.m., a car approached with men aboard, who opened gunfire. One of the men allegedly fell on a piece of steel after being shot.
One resident stated "Mi just a wonder wah really a happen, I had to take cover in the shop. Shortwood Lane is one of the most peaceful communities so I was shocked. People ago shake up over this."
The Grants Pen area has seen several shootings since the start of the year. Sunday's incident follows Saturday's shooting incident in the community in which David Clarke, the brother of dancehall entertainer Jahshii, was killed. In March, businessman Peter Greene was shot dead and his wife injured in a morning attack. In June, Omar 'Romie' Wright was killed by unknown assailants, and earlier this month, businessman Dwayne Williams, of a Border Avenue, Havendale address in St Andrew, was reportedly killed at the intersection of Grants Pen and Shortwood roads.
