Pick of the Week: Gypy Winter Fest

Entertainer Gyptian says it's all systems go for Gypy Winter Fest this Saturday.

Set to take place at the Golden Spring community centre, the event boasts a line-up that features some of the biggest artistes in Jamaica, and, according to the organiser himself, it is a show patrons will not want to miss.

"You have man like Beenie Man, Capleton, Bascom X, Fantan Mojah, Kranium, Tommy Lee, whole heap a people. We just want the people dem come out and have a good time wid di artiste dem. We will be having a family fun day in the day for all the kids, so it will be a full day of activities," Gyptian said.

Richie Spice, Shane O, Munga, Gage, Starface, Jah Vinci, Samantha J, Luciano and Ky-Mani Marley are also listed as artistes slated to perform at the event. The show is expected to get under way at 10 pm. Music will be provided by Kosmic Movements, Flava Unit, Sound Trooper, Sky Juice, Zj Liquid , Dj Shaun, and Supa Mix. Admission to the event is $1500.

During the fun day, children will ride all day for $500.

Aware that stage shows are on the decline in Jamaica, Gyptian said it is important for him to play his part in keeping the live-entertainment scene alive on the island. The artiste explained that platforms such as the one provided at live events help to usher in new talent. He also sees stage shows as an opportunity for artistes to get close to their fans.

"Music is all about enhancement, so it's a good look whenever a show like Gypy Fest come about," he said.

"As established artistes, our music is way more stronger, and we still need shows fi show off our thing, so imagine the younger artistes. More artistes a buss and a find new ways of going about things, but nothing beats getting on that stage and testing your skills in that way, so it's always good to have more and more stage shows," Gyptian said.
