Recording artiste Inseedius is calling for fellow local acts to take their craft more seriously, after making his first appearance in Europe recently.

According the deejay, who made stops in Croatia and Turkey, dancehall has a far way to go if it ought to be seen as an internationally accepted genre.

"When you go to those countries it is very humbling because then you realise that we are not crossing borders like we assume. Ninety-nine per cent of the biggest names in dancehall are not known. It's just the same legends like Bob Marley, Gregory Isaacs and Dennis Brown. It really makes you wonder what have we been doing and what are we doing wrong because nobody releases music like us" he said.

The artiste, who was promoting his single Ecstasy, which amassed a million views on YouTube since its October release, also said the language in dancehall might also be factor which hinders its growth.

"When I observe the songs fans overseas like, it's usually the ones that they are able to understand. Don't get me wrong, foreigners love our curse words, they love to hear us speak patois and our accent ... but they also want to understand and sing along," he said.

He said that Jamaicans who are not travelling the world are unaware that despite a few Grammy wins and platinum certifications, dancehall is still in its infancy state.

The artiste now aims to direct much of his focus on the international market with the hopes of keeping his growing overseas fan base interested.

"I am not saying am going to water down the content, but I will find a way to feed the fans in a manner which is easier consumed," he said.
