Ginjah decries domestic violence on new single
Known internationally for his message-laced songs as well as those that speak to matters of the heart, reggae singer Ginjah is currently promoting the thought-provoking 'Stop Kill Woman'.
The song, which tackles the issue of domestic violence, has been gaining momentum on local airwaves in recent weeks.
'The reason why I wrote the song is because I honestly believe it's my responsibility as an entertainer to always bring the message to the people. What affects them also affects me. How could I sit and watch injustice? I felt compelled to write this song. It's as if it was spiritually planned," said Ginjah.
The singer, known for hits such as Never Lost My Way and Sweet Killer, said entertainers have a responsibility to speak up about issues which affect fellow Jamaicans, specifically crime and violence.
"I do believe entertainers should play a role in curtailing crime in general, even though many of us do not think that way. If you listen to the music, you know where I am coming from. To each his own, but I cannot support crime and violence in no sharp or form," Ginjah added.
Stop Kill Woman was produced by Montego Bay-based Yung Kingz Entertainment.
Ginjah said the frequent incidents of crime and violence, and especifically crimes against women and children, were of concern to him. Hence, he plans to embark on a major campaign to promote the song.
A date for digital release is yet to be determined. Ginjah is currently working on his fourth album. His last effort was 2017's Roots, which was produced by the UK-based Stingray Records.
