Pot calling the kettle black
Life is filled with ironies. For many years, countries like the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US) have been dictating how we live our lives in what they refer to as ‘Third World’ countries like Jamaica.
‘Do this, do that or else we will not do this or we will do that’.
More often than not our leaders, regardless of political affiliation, jump to the beat of those drums often to the chagrin of the general population.
Mind you, there are many times when these world powers are correct about the things that they dictate we do, but there are many times when they are wrong.
These days, I do not think any of them have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to how we do things in our ‘less powerful’ nations.
When you look at what is happening in the US and UK, it makes you wonder why we listened to these people in the first place.
The US, under this current leadership, is putting the world at risk of another great depression and perhaps another global war.
Meanwhile, over in the UK, there has been much confusion and dysfunction over Brexit.
Therefore, when these people now try to tell you things, you are more than inclined to take them with a grain of salt.
The US, for example, in its latest State Department report, lists Jamaica as a major transhipment hub for narcotics.
This is not untrue given the island’s limited resources, which affects its ability to adequately monitor out shores.
Previous reports have mentioned the fact that this country’s murder rate is among the highest in the world.
They say this without highlighting that a significant cause of this is the fact that their lax gun laws allows hundreds, if not thousands of weapons, to be smuggled into Jamaica.
These weapons are what are used to commit the hundreds of murders each year in this country.
The UK, meanwhile, like the US, has concerns over immigration and whatnot but are willing to kick out our thousands of Caribbean migrants who helped them rebuild after World War II.
How can you trust these people to tell you anything that would be good for you? Because what has become clear is what they tell you to do, is not necessarily things that are for your benefit, but definitely benefits them.
