Classes at several schools in Portland were suspended on Monday after heavy rainfall made roadways across the parish impassable.

Titchfield High, Norwich Primary, Port Antonio Primary, Portland High, and Port Antonio High are some of the schools that have been affected.

The downpour started shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday and continued for the better part of eight hours, causing damages to at least two houses.

The main thoroughfare in the vicinity of the Coronation bakery was also inundated, forcing motorists and pedestrians to use a secondary roadway known as Back Road in the vicinity of Boundbrook Primary school to get into or while exiting Port Antonio.
