Rohan James remains police federation chairman

Corporal Rohan James will lead the Jamaica Police Federation for another year.

James was returned to his post of chairman by delegates in elections on Wednesday, after securing 98 votes -- the second highest of all the candidates.

The highest number of votes went to Corporal Arleen McBean, who is set to return to her post as General Secretary. In his first address to delegates, James stressed the need for unity among the membership.

"We [the central executive] are going to be a solid rock on which we are going to stand and we are going to learn from the lessons that we have lived. I do hope that all of the branch boards will endeavour to engage your membership as well your commanders and administrators...a house that is divided cannot stand," he said.

The central executive remains unchanged. Sergeant Lloyd Duncan and Sergeant Tameca Thomas, who secured a combined 186 votes, will return as representatives for their colleagues of similar rank. The concerns of constables will continue to be marshalled by Constables Koy Marriot and Nigel Murphy, who secured 90 and 72 votes, respectively.

The central executive is the leadership of the Jamaica Police Federation. Instituted by law, one of the main duties of the federation is to mandate to advocate on behalf of the rank and file members on matters concerning their welfare.
