A Jamaica-born man told the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday that he paid someone to acquire a fake passport so that he could return overseas to visit his three pregnant girlfriends.

Shawn Watson pleaded guilty to making a false declaration and obtaining a passport by means of a forged document. It was shared with the court that Watson obtained a passport in the name Delroy Nicholson Lyn.

"Why did you have to pay somebody to obtain the false passport? Why did you have to resort to that? You are a Jamaican; you are entitled to that. Why you did that?" Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks asked.

"At the time, I was just removed from the UK [United Kingdom] and I had like three babymothers pregnant and they were forcing me to come back. I didn't want to go back because I was married to my Canadian girlfriend but they [the UK women] were forcing me, so I just did it," said Watson, who is a construction worker.

The court heard that the fake document was not used and Watson is now a resident of Canada.

For the offence of making a false declaration, he was ordered to pay a fine of $10,000 or face four months' imprisonment, while for the charge of obtaining a passport by means of a forged document, Watson was fined $100,000 or four months' imprisonment. He was made the subject of a fingerprint order.
